Start Your Day With Intention
I saw this comic in Keep Going by Austin Kleon and it hit me hard.
It showed two characters having a simple exchange:
One said Leonardo da Vinci woke up each morning and wrote what he wanted to learn that day.
The other replied, “I wake up and check the news on my phone.”
It felt funny but also painfully real.
Because for many of us, that’s exactly how we start our day.
Not with intention.
Not with clarity.
But with noise.
Leonardo Woke Up With Purpose. What About You?
Leonardo da Vinci didn’t just exist, he explored. He gave direction to his days before they started.
And here we are, waking up and handing over our minds to social feeds, headlines, group chats, and distractions.
I realized this about myself sometime in 2019.
My phone was shaping my day before I even had a chance to think.
Before I even had a moment to set my own pace.
So I Made a Rule
No phone until I complete my first three tasks. And if I must pick it up, it’s only to play a sermon or music while I work...something that fuels, not drains me.
Not to scroll.
Not to chat.
Not to hand my focus to the world before I’ve even owned it for myself.
That one simple shift changed everything.
It gave me back control.
It made my mornings peaceful.
It helped me focus.
And most of all, it reminded me that I am in charge of my time not my phone.
A Better Start Begins With You
Your mornings matter. They are not just the start of your day, they are the start of your mind.If you begin with distractions, you’ll likely carry that chaos with you.
But if you start with intention, you’ll carry clarity instead.
What do you do first thing in the morning?
What lesson are you taking from this?
